Choosing gear can be a tedious and overwhelming process, especially for those who are beginning to venture into backcountry. This post intends to simplify the process with a checklist of essentials and recommendations that have helped us scale all the distance and elevation while being reasonably comfortable with the weight on our backs.

The importance of choosing lightweight gear cannot be stressed enough as that, from our experience, is the only sustainable way to continue backcountry camping without feeling burdened by the weight. Even though they are pricier than the heavier alternatives, your back and body will thank you for choosing them.

REI is a great place to start with the process of choosing gear as they carry a wide range of camping/outdoor equipment in store with a lot of choices. We highly recommend trying out different backpacks/shoes. etc. to understand what fits you the best.
